Description

 

Responsible for the recruitment, training, retention, and supervision of foster volunteers as well as the placement of foster pets in appropriate foster homes, maintaining and growing positive relationships with foster volunteers, in addition to the management and organization of the foster program and assisting people in the community keep their pets by offering public promotion for short-term, situational, and private foster needs. 


 

  • Maintains foster volunteer records and coordinates foster schedules, prepares department reports, and engages the community to attract fosters.
  • Knowledgeable about and ensures state regulations are being followed.  
  • Ensures LHS policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Organizes and conducts foster training to ensure aspects of the training are in accordance with the organization’s mission and philosophy.  
  • Ensures that foster volunteers have the support they need for their foster pet.
  • Ensures all pets that need foster care are healthy and maintain weight.  Weight checks will be performed daily by the community pet coordinator.
  • Ensures that foster volunteers are matched and trained appropriately for the needs of the foster pets.
  • Updates training materials and programs as needed and alerts foster relevant education opportunities.
  • Develops and implements strategies to recruit fosters, responds to inquiries regarding the foster program, interviews, and screens potential fosters.
  • Markets pets in need of foster care on the LHS Facebook page and Foster Facebook Group.
  • Ensures all foster pets are up to date on vaccinations and dewormer. Schedules and conducts regular foster exams for revaccinations and dewormer.
  • Responsible for communicating with fosters with information regarding their foster pets. Clearly communicates medication treatments and expectations of care. 
  • Maintains foster personnel records noting special skills and interests.  
  • Ensures complete and accurate record keeping of items including but not limited to: foster agreements, pet exams, and various spreadsheets and forms.
  • Provides positive customer service interactions, and follows the philosophies, core values, and adoption guidelines of the Lynchburg Humane Society. 
  • Works closely with other departments to ensure smooth communication and scheduling flow for things such as pet placement, friendly foster placement, adoption meet and greets, and medical appointments. 
  • Assists the Pet Help team in keeping pets in homes by providing promotion and resources for members of the public in need of fostering for short-term, situational, and private fostering.
  • Communicate with all volunteers and staff to foster mutual understanding and teamwork.
  • Coordinates with LHS medical team, veterinarians, and foster/medical liaison concerning foster pets needing medical care
  • Moderates the LHS Fosters Facebook group. 
  • Personifies LHS core values.
Requirements

 

  • High School Diploma.
  • Excellent work ethic and assertiveness skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to maintain composure and excel in a fast-paced environment while remaining organized and accurate.
  • Ability to communicate with the public in a respectful manner, even under pressure.
  • Computer and data entry experience.
  • Ability to represent the values of LHS by working in a culturally diverse environment and community in a way that fosters understanding and compassion.
  • Must work holidays and weekends
