BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Animal Services Manager, coordinates animal adoption and rescue-placement activities to increase live outcomes and reduce animals’ length of stay. Develops relationships with rescue and foster organizations, counsels prospective adopters, promotes available animals, coordinates adoption events and animal transfers, and maintains accurate placement records. Provides lead direction to assigned volunteers, community service workers, and shelter attendants and assists with animal care and shelter operations as needed.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of humane animal care, shelter operations, disease prevention, animal behavior, and safe handling practices
- Knowledge of animal adoption, rescue, foster, transfer, and live-outcome practices
- Knowledge of applicable animal-control laws, City policies, safety procedures, and recordkeeping requirements
- Knowledge of public outreach, adoption promotions, social media, and animal-marketing practices
- Skill in safely handling and restraining animals of varied sizes, breeds, health conditions, and temperaments
- Skill in evaluating animal behavior, counseling prospective adopters, and matching animals with appropriate homes
- Skill in coordinating animal placements and maintaining relationships with rescue, foster, veterinary, and community partners
- Skill in maintaining accurate animal, medical, placement, financial, and operational records
- Skill in using animal-shelter management systems, GIS mapping, databases, and other job-related technology
- Skill in planning and coordinating adoption events, promotions, animal transportation, and community-outreach activities
- Skill in providing lead direction, training, and support to employees and volunteers
- Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately and manage difficult or emotionally sensitive interactions
- Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and respond effectively to changing or time-sensitive animal-placement needs
- Ability to interpret maps, addresses, and property information to determine City limits and service jurisdiction
- Ability to work
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in animal sheltering, animal care, rescue coordination, veterinary services, or a related field; or
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Preferred:
Experience coordinating adoptions, rescue placements, volunteers, or community outreach
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
A valid Class C Texas driver's license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
Required to complete assigned Public Information training and any other mandatory training in accordance with City policies and established deadlines
